A number of different types of treatments are used for the treatment of primary peritoneal cancer.

1. Surgery

You may be offered surgical removal of many cancers. This usually means the removal of the uterus, ovaries, fat in the skin of the abdomen (omentum), and much of the tumor as possible elsewhere.

2. Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is the use of anti-cancer drugs to destroy cancer cells. It works by destroying the growth and division of cancerous cells. Chemotherapy is often given after surgery if it was not possible to remove the tumor, or if there is a risk of some cancers in May left behind.

If the surgeon believes that cancer may be difficult to remove, can be administered chemotherapy and surgery, and then executed. This is the tumor smaller and easier to remove.

3. Radiotherapy

Radiotherapy treats cancer by using high-energy rays to kill cancer cells while doing minimal damage to normal cells. Radiotherapy is sometimes used to treat different areas of PPC, when he comes back after surgery and chemotherapy.

4. Clinical Trials

Research on new ways of treating primary peritoneal cancer is underway. Doctors are constantly seeking better ways to deal with the disease and they do it through clinical trials. Many hospitals now participate in such studies. Before the trials take place in May, must be approved by an ethics committee, which checks if the process is in the interest of the patient.

5. You may be invited to participate in a clinical trial

Your physician should discuss treatment with you so you understand the process and what it means. You may choose to participate or withdraw from a trial at any time. You get the best available standard treatment.

Monitoring for the primary cancer of the peritoneum

After treatment, you will regularly monitor appointments with your specialist to determine how you are recovering after treatment. They can also be obtained, or if you have new symptoms or problems. Monitoring usually includes a physical examination. It may also involve taking blood samples.

Your feelings

You are probably a number of different emotional experiences during your cancer experience. These may include: shock, disbelief, fear and anger. Sometimes these emotions can be overwhelming and difficult to control. It is natural and important to express them. Each has its own way of dealing with difficult situations, some people find it helpful to talk with friends or family, while others prefer to help people learn about their situation. Some people prefer to keep their feelings to themselves. There is no right or wrong way to cope, but help is available when you need it.
