Mesothelioma is a rare form of peritoneal mesothelioma that affects about 20% of all cases of peritoneal mesothelioma. Mesothelioma tissue along the belly, is called the peritoneum hence the name of this form of cancer. The peritoneum protects the contents of the abdomen and is therefore very important to present, only one cause of peritoneal mesothelioma is known, and this is the exposure to asbestos dust and fibers Just a couple of months of exposure to asbestos without sufficient protection can lead to peritoneal mesothelioma. Thirty to fifty years later complaints by peritoneal mesothelioma are mostly elderly men who worked with asbestos decades ago when workers are not protected from asbestos dust. Many of these men are currently lodging with multiple-million-dollar lawsuits against the company exposed them to asbestos.
